Podcasting is a unique and accessible platform for reporters to employ the tools and techniques of broadcast, print, and documentary production. For media outlets and individual journalists interested in where to start or how to make their existing podcast the best it can be, the Press Club of Long Island presents “Introduction to Podcasting for Newsrooms, Freelancers and DIY Media Moguls” on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. livestreaming on YouTube, Facebook and PCLI.org.
Michael “Manny Faces” Conforti is an award-winning journalist and podcast producer. He co-produces and edits the acclaimed social justice-oriented podcast News Beat, as well as several other programs by its parent company Morey Creative Studios. News Beat has received top accolades from esteemed journalism organizations including the New York Press Club and Press Club of Long Island. As owner of Manny Faces Media, he consults on, creates, edits and distributes podcasts for a wide variety of clients.
Rashed Mian is the managing editor of award-winning social justice podcast News Beat and its parent company Morey Creative Studios. Previously, he covered civil liberties, government and politics at alt-weekly Long Island Press, giving voice to the Muslim American community and a wide range of activists and disenfranchised groups. He uses many of the same skills he learned as an alternative media journalist — specifically narrative storytelling — to develop rich, thought-provoking podcasts that resonate with listeners and inspire action.
Christopher Twarowski is editor-in-chief of award-winning social justice podcast News Beat, its parent company Morey Creative Studios, and former editor in chief and investigations czar of the alternative weekly Long Island Press. He has written for the financial and metro desks of The Washington Post and has earned more than 150 local, state and national journalism awards and accolades. He infuses the compassion and fury of hard-hitting journalism into each episode of News Beat podcast to enhance storytelling, amplify marginalized voices and underreported issues, and help incite meaningful change.
Journalist and broadcaster David North, a PCLI board member with experience as a reporter, producer and host of news and public affairs programs, will serve as moderator.
