Joseph Sweeney, an incoming senior at Miller Place High School, wrote a letter to Howard Schneider, the dean of Stony Brook’s School of Journalism, about his experience at the Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists.
We’re so pleased that Joseph have a wonderful experience and we want to share his letter:
“I am contacting you today to thank you for the amazing week that I had while participating at the Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists. I learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, you were not kidding when you said this was going to be an intense journalism boot camp, but it was honestly the best week of my life! The information I learned will be taken with me for my entire life as I pursue a career in journalism, as this camp really did give me a hands-on perspective to all aspects of journalism. I loved being taught from the best in the business with such experienced and qualified professionals, I now know I love journalism even more then I did a month ago because of this camp. I want to become a news anchor when I get older, and within a short amount of time I was taught the basics to broadcasting by an amazing staff, I’ll head back to school with an edge over everyone else with the new information I now know and love so much. This program also made me love Stony Brook University as well, SBU is now my first pick for colleges, and the School of Journalism just feels like home. Thank you again for running this program, it has truly changed me as a student and aspiring journalist. I’ll wear the Greene team as a badge of honor my entire life, and I hope to meet you again and come back to the school of journalism in a couple of years.”
