The following is a note sent by the Society of Professional Journalists to its members this week …
Dear SPJ members,
We expect the federal shield bill, also known as the Free Flow of Information Act (S. 987), to be brought to the Senate floor very soon. But before it can be brought to the floor, we need to be sure that the bipartisan bill has more than 60 votes in order to overcome any potential filibuster.
We’re asking all SPJ members to contact their senators to find out if they support S. 987, as well as to encourage them to vote YES on S. 987.
We’re making this process extremely easy for you:
Please help us in our efforts to pass a federal shield law. After all, this protects your right to exercise journalism in a free democracy.
