Former Newsday reporter, editorial writer and columnist Lawrence C. Levy has been named the Press Club of Long Island’s Phil Spahn Award recipient.
Levy, now executive director of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University, was chosen for his leadership, ability, and outstanding service to journalism during his 30-year career.
Levy was a PBS talk show host and a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his in-depth works on suburban politics, education, taxation and housing, among other issues.
Before joining Hofstra, Levy was senior editorial writer and chief political columnist for Newsday, and remains a guest contributor to
nytimes.com, writes a regular column on politics for the Albany Times Union, and appears regularly on local and national television.
Levy will be presented the award at the Press Club’s annual Media Awards dinner on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Woodbury Country Club.
