The Society of Professional Journalists, the parent organization of the Press Club of Long Island, has named PCLI a Chapter of the Year.
The award will be presented at SPJ’s National Convention, which will take place from August 27-30 in Indianapolis.
“This is such an honor for the Press Club to be considered by the Society of Professional Journalists to be one of three Best Chapters of the Year in the country!” said John O’Connell, PCLI’s president. “The credit belongs to the entire board of conscientious, professional journalists who put in many hours of their own time to serve the needs of the journalism community on Long Island. Among other projects, the board members put together monthly programs on practical and relevant topics that help journalists do their jobs better. The board invests serious time and energy in organizing a respected annual Media Awards contest and dinner. And with help from many other PCLI members, they write and perform an always-entertaining holiday show. I am proud the board and the Press Club has received this recognition for its work, and I know it will spur us on to do even more.”
