It’s time, once again, for the annual Press Club of Long Island Media Awards Competition, recognizing outstanding work in print, broadcast and online journalism produced during 2011.

Press Club of Long Island, the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, announced the winners of its 2011 Media Awards contest at its annual awards dinner June 9 at the Woodbury Country Club. More than 90 winners were named in 55 categories.

Christopher Twarowski and Joel Cairo of the Long Island Press were awarded the Robert W. Greene Public Service Award for their “Toxic Time Bomb” investigative series.

Newsday investigative reporter Sandra Peddie has been named PCLI’s 2011 Outstanding Long Island Journalist.

Jennifer Gustavson, a reporter at the North Shore Sun, was named the 2011 James L. Murphy Cub Reporter of the Year.
