A crowd of about 60 came to a PCLI panel on the future of media on Long Island on Sept. 18 at Newsday.

The discussion centered on Cablevision’s recent acquisition of Newsday, and how the paper might link up with News 12 Long Island, the cable giant’s cable TV operation.

Panelists John Mancini, Newsday’s editor, and News 12’s news director, Pat Dolan, said they’ve only had preliminary discussions – in fact, the event, held at Newsday, marked only the third time the two had been in the same room – and that they had identified several opportunities to share editorial resources, but nothing definitive.

Moderated by Robert Papper, chairman of Hofstra University’s journalism department, the panel was rounded out by Jeff Lambert, publisher of South Bay’s Neighbor Newspapers, a local shopper chain.
