Press Club welcomes Jeff Bessen to our board

The Press Club of Long Island welcomes Jeffrey Bessen to our Board of Directors.

Bessen has been with Herald Community Newspapers since 2010 as editor of the Nassau Herald, which covers the Five Towns. He was promoted to senior editor in 2017.

“I’ve known Jeff for a decade, and he is a journalist who is committed to the profession and, more importantly, to the people he covers,” said Scott Brinton, PCLI president. “I’m proud to know him and proud to have him on the board.”

Before joining the Herald, Bessen was editor of the Islip Bulletin and Suffolk County News. Both newspapers cover several communities on the South Shore of Suffolk County.

Bessen has won a number of New York Press Association awards as a community newspaper reporter and editor, and has been recognized by multiple local institutions and organizations for his support of the community in his reporting. He has also written for sports websites and radio, and produced a local cable television show.

Bessen earned a bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State and a master’s from Miami University of Ohio.

He lives in Lindenhurst with his wife, Christine, and children Matthew, 22, and Elizabeth, 14.
