Dear Friend,

I’m Scott Brinton, president of the Press Club of Long Island, and I would like to invite you to PCLI’s annual Holiday Party at Watermill Caterers in Smithtown on Dec. 12.

I’m a lifelong Long Islander with 25 years of experience reporting on this great Island. Never before have I seen a year like 2018. It was, at points, the worst of times, when journalists were verbally abused and physically attacked. But it was also the best of times, when we renewed our commitment to seeking the Truth with a capital “T” and rallied together and supported one another in unprecedented ways.

The Holiday Party is a chance to celebrate our shared bond as members of Long Island’s Fourth Estate, which remains vibrant in the face of challenges, new and old. We have one of the best regional daily newspapers in the country, supported by a local owner (who is a journalist himself); many of the state’s top community weekly newspapers; numerous magazines; two regional television stations whose primary focus is Long Island news; several local radio stations, both commercial and student-run; and hyper-local news websites galore. And each of our local universities and colleges is committed to teaching journalism as an important subject of study.

From the looks of Long Island, you wouldn’t know our profession is
“dying.”

The Holiday Party offers three hours to reconnect with old friends and make new ones in a relaxed atmosphere. So, please join us for an evening of food, drink and song together. For all of us on the Press Club of Long Island Board, I hope to see you there!

To order tickets, check out EventBrite here. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Toys. Thanks so much!
