We hope to see a strong turnout from Press Club of Long Island members.
The Deadline Club is proud to be host of the 2017 Region 1 Conference to be held at the shiny new campus of John Jay College of Criminal Justice April 7 and 8.
Conference registration will kick off at noon Friday and panels will be in full swing and panels will start right away in classrooms around the college. The committee, chaired by the inimitable Claire Reagan is working on a location for the Friday night reception, an excellent networking and catching-up opportunity.
We have panels set up primarily for students including “how to get an internship” and “how to get a job.” Top notch professionals will be looking over resumes and video clips. We also have sessions and panels for pros, including transitioning from reporter/editor to college teaching, covering LGBT issues, covering trauma, covering terrorism, FOI issues, covering the changing world of science and technology and legal issues for journalists.
The committee will bring in a top NYC journalist as keynote speaker at the Saturday Mark of Excellence luncheon where you will get a chance to honor the best in student journalism in the region.
As usual, we are still looking for ideas for GREAT PANELS. If you have any ideas, expertise or are just willing to help, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Ditto if you have contacts who can provide loot for our swag bags or items for our silent and live auctions.
Expect details on the hotel deals within 24 hours.
