PCLI hosts hyperlocal news event

The Press Club of Long Island, the local pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, hosted a panel discussion, “Long Island hyperlocal websites: the next phase” with some of the hot players on Long Island. The event took place at Newsday in Melville.

unnamedThe panelists included Denise Civiletti, Co-founder and Co-publisher, RiverheadLOCAL  and SoutholdLOCAL, Nicholas Wieland, Co-Editor, The Huntingtonian and Ryan Bonner, Regional Editor, Patch.com.

Carl Corry, veteran of Long Island media company websites and adjunct professor at Hofstra University and LIU Post, was the moderator.

Our panelists discussed how hyperlocal operations are changing, how they use staff, if any, and whether they’re making any real money.
