Ethics Week Capsule: Diana DeRosa, PCLI board member

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 10.32.56 AMIt’s Ethics Week and the Press Club of Long Island is honoring the week by hosting another digital capsule project on PCLI.org. We’ll be posting commentary on our website from influential journalists about ethics throughout the week.

Diana DeRosa, PCLI Board Member and photographer:

“Ethics extends to photography as well. When you publish a photo that is not the norm for whatever you are covering the consequences can be devastating. While people often stop at the compelling, dangerous and scary photos, make sure to balance those with the many beautiful shots. To just try and capture your audience by only showing the dangerous side of a sport is not a fair representation. Photos of horses are a prime example of this. Often publications want to show the crashes and mishaps without balancing that with the many dramatic and beautiful images. Being balanced is all part of being ethically fair to the sport you are portraying.”
