Newsday expanding coverage in Westchester

Last month Newsday created a unified Local Media digital operation and integrated its sales organization with Cablevision Media Sales and this week announced two more new initiatives.

According to a memo to its staff, Newsday is building on the success of its online and mobile products and will be launching new digital products — web as well as iPhone, iPad and Android apps, specifically for Westchester County beginning early next year. The memo says comprehensive, compelling hyper-local news, sports, opinion, things-to-do and entertainment coverage will serve the Westchester community.

Through this initiative and by harnessing the strengths of News 12, MSG Varsity and amNewYork, Newsday will become a major digital information choice for Westchester County residents.

Newsday will also align their highly successful amNewYork newspaper more closely with Newsday’s editorial operations and Cablevision Media Sales. To be clear, the memo says Newsday is not returning to New York City.

They will be finding ways to enrich the editorial content with the full weight of what Newsday’s vast operation can bring, as well as add news and opinion pages to make it

an even stronger newspaper for New York City. In the memo they said they also have significant aspirations digitally and within the mobile space for amNewYork and believe these will be better realized as part of the larger Local Media Digital Group.
