PCLI to host police and the press program

In light of the Suffolk County Police Department’s arrest of a video journalist for filming at a crime scene last Friday, the Press Club of Long Island will be holding a special meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Phil Datz will be showing the widely viewed video of his arrest as well as video of previous confrontations with police at crime scenes.

It will feature a panel discussion on journalists’ rights and responsibilities at crime scenes and the police policies and training on managing the media at scenes. Panelists will include Newsday Associate Editor Cliff Schechtman and representatives from the Suffolk and Nassau Police Departments with others to be added. The moderator is Carolyn James, editor of the Babylon Beacon, Amityville Record and Massapequa Post.

Time: Panel at 7 p.m.; pizza at 6:30 p.m.
