Last week, the Society of Professional Journalists announced that this year’s Sunshine Award for important contributions in the area of open government would go to Robert Freeman, the executive director for the New York State Committee on Open Government. Freeman has worked at the organization, which was previously the Committee on Public Access to Records, for 40 years.
